Examity
Examity is the online proctoring layer that watches your exam — it is not the exam itself. Universities, colleges, and certification bodies (Western Governors University among them) deliver their own course tests through Examity, which verifies your identity and records or live-monitors the session. For a fully online or distance program, a flagged Examity session can mean a void result, an integrity hold, or a delayed graduation date. This page explains exactly how Examity authenticates you, the two ways it proctors, the strict system rules, and how to pass a high-stakes Examity exam the first time.

Examity proctors your institution's exam — at a glance
1
Before your first exam you upload a photo ID, choose security questions, and type a sample to record your biometric keystroke signature — the baseline Examity matches you against later.
2
At test time you run a system check, verify your ID against a live webcam image, answer challenge questions, and complete a room scan. The browser extension then enters the exam password.
3
Your webcam, microphone, and screen are recorded throughout. A live proctor or AI watches for flags; the exam content, timer, and pass mark all come from your school, not Examity.
Examity never sets the questions or the passing standard. Your university or certification body builds the exam inside its own learning system, then routes the session through Examity for identity checks and monitoring. So "how long," "how many questions," and "what's a pass" are all defined by your course — Examity only governs the conditions you sit it under.
Depending on how your institution configures Examity, you either reserve a slot in advance or launch the exam on demand within an availability window. Either way you must complete the full authentication flow before the test unlocks, so building in time for the system check and ID verification is essential on a tight deadline.
Bars show how heavily a human reviews each mode — your school chooses which applies
A single proctor oversees your whole session in real time — authentication, launch, and the exam itself — followed by a post-test audit. This is Examity's highest-security tier.
Formerly "Automated Premium." AI records and monitors the full session, flags suspicious behaviour, and an Examity audit team reviews the flagged events afterward — no live proctor watching in real time.
Auto-authentication plus an AI-recorded session your institution can review on demand. The difference from Automated + Audit is that Standard has no human audit team reviewing the session afterward.
Every mode begins with the same Auto-Authentication: a government photo ID matched to a live webcam image, challenge questions, and a typed digital signature checked against your keystroke biometric on file. Because your institution — not you — picks the mode, you may not know until launch whether a human is watching live; treat every Examity exam as fully monitored.
What Examity checks before it unlocks your exam — and the rules during it
You need a desktop, laptop, or Chromebook — tablets and phones are not supported — running Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS with a working webcam, microphone, and speakers. Use Google Chrome with the Examity Chrome extension installed and your pop-up blocker disabled. Linux is not supported. Run Examity's system check before exam day to confirm everything passes.
Auto-Authentication matches your valid, unexpired government photo ID to a real-time webcam image, asks the security questions you set during profile creation, and verifies a typed digital signature against your keystroke biometric. The name on your ID must match your institution's record exactly, and you must have your ID in hand every time you test.
A 360° webcam scan of your desk and room is required. Clear the workspace, remove notes, and keep no phone or second monitor within reach. No one else may be in the room.
A wired connection or strong Wi-Fi of at least 2 Mbps up and down (10 Mbps preferred). Dropped connections during a session can interrupt the exam and trigger a flag for review.
Stay on camera and in frame the whole time. Leaving the seat, talking aloud, opening other tabs, or looking off-screen can be flagged by the AI or proctor and sent to your school.
Common across fully online and distance programs
The exam is your school's — the surveillance is Examity's
The real difficulty: Examity itself adds no academic content — but ID checks, room scans, the keystroke biometric, and constant recording pile pressure onto an already high-stakes exam. A dropped connection or a webcam flag can derail a test you were ready for, which is exactly the friction our help is built to remove.
An Examity exam is a graded, surveilled checkpoint standing between you and credit, a transfer, or graduation. Exam Assist pairs you with a vetted specialist who knows the Examity environment and works on a pay-after-you-pass model — so the risk sits with us, not you. No upfront fee, guaranteed results: Exam Assist handles the sitting end to end, and you settle only after the verified result.
Tell us your institution, the course or certification, the proctoring mode if you know it, and your test window. Takes a couple of minutes over WhatsApp, Telegram, or Discord.
We review your subject, deadline, and the Examity setup and tell you plainly whether it's realistic — before any money is discussed. If it isn't a fit, we say so.
