ANS-C01
The AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty (ANS-C01) is one of AWS's hardest credentials — a deep, scenario-driven exam covering hybrid connectivity, large-scale VPC design, BGP routing, and network security across multi-account environments. For cloud network and infrastructure engineers it is the credential that separates "knows VPCs" from "designs the backbone," and it frequently sits on a job offer, a promotion, or a partner-tier requirement. With a 750-of-1000 bar and dense, trap-laden questions, a single weak attempt can cost you 14 days and another $300. This page breaks down exactly what ANS-C01 tests, how it's delivered, and how to get it done right the first time.

How the ANS-C01 exam is built — at a glance
65
Multiple choice (one correct answer) and multiple response (two or more correct). Only 50 of the 65 are scored; 15 are unmarked pretest items that don't count.
170
Roughly 2.6 minutes per question — but ANS-C01 stems are long and dense, so pacing is a real constraint. There is no scheduled break.
750
Scored 100–1000 with a compensatory model — strong domains can offset weaker ones. You pass or fail on the overall scaled score, not per domain.
Most questions describe a real architecture — multi-VPC, hybrid Direct Connect plus VPN, multi-region, multi-account — and ask for the option that best meets a constraint like cost, resilience, latency, or compliance. Several plausible answers are technically valid; only one is best. You must read carefully for the qualifier ("most cost-effective", "least operational overhead").
AWS reports a single scaled score from 100 to 1,000; 750 is the minimum to pass. Because the model is compensatory, you do not need to clear each domain independently — only the total matters. Your score report shows whether your performance in each domain section met, exceeded, or fell short of the competency line, which is useful for retakes.
Four domains — bars show each domain's official share of the scored exam
Hybrid and multi-account connectivity at scale: Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, VPC peering, CIDR planning, edge and content delivery, and resilient global architectures.
Building the design: routing (BGP, route tables, propagation), DNS with Route 53 and Resolver, load balancing, and automating network deployment with CloudFormation and IaC.
Monitoring and troubleshooting with VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch, Reachability Analyzer, and Transit Gateway Network Manager — plus optimizing performance and operating networks day to day.
Security groups and NACLs, AWS Network Firewall, WAF and Shield, traffic inspection, PrivateLink, encryption in transit, and meeting compliance and governance controls.
Network Design alone is nearly a third of your score, so hybrid connectivity and multi-account architecture are the highest-yield study targets. The four weightings add to 100% of the scored questions, but remember only 50 of the 65 items count toward your result.
Two ways to sit ANS-C01 — and what to expect on test day
You sit the exam in a quiet, monitored room at a Pearson VUE center. Staff verify your government-issued ID, store your belongings, and watch the room on camera. You're provided an on-screen scratchpad. Booked through your AWS Certification account; the fee is $300 USD.
You take the exam from a private room at home through OnVUE, Pearson VUE's remote-proctoring software. A live proctor monitors you by webcam after a system check, ID capture, and a 360° room scan. No scratch paper is allowed — only the on-screen whiteboard. Same $300 USD fee.
A valid, unexpired government photo ID with a name matching your AWS Certification profile exactly. The proctor captures your photo and ID before the exam unlocks.
A clear desk, no second monitor, no phone or notes within reach, and a webcam scan of the room. No one else may enter while the exam is in progress.
Stay in frame and on-camera the whole 170 minutes — there is no scheduled break online. Speaking aloud, looking off-screen, or losing connection can pause or flag the session.
ANS-C01 is aimed at experienced network professionals on AWS
No mandatory prerequisite — but deep experience is assumed
Difficulty: ANS-C01 is widely rated among the hardest AWS exams. It blends traditional networking depth (BGP, routing, DNS) with AWS-specific services (Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, PrivateLink) and long trade-off questions. Many well-prepared engineers still invest 100–150 hours and hands-on lab time — exactly the kind of pressure point our help is designed to remove.
The Advanced Networking - Specialty is a high-stakes, time-boxed exam standing between you and a role, raise, or partner competency. Exam Assist pairs you with a vetted AWS networking specialist and works on a pay-after-you-pass model — so the risk sits with us, not you. No upfront fee, guaranteed results: Exam Assist handles the sitting end to end, and you settle only after the verified result.
Tell us your delivery method (center or OnVUE), target date, and where you're at on hybrid networking. Takes a couple of minutes over WhatsApp, Telegram, or Discord.
We review your timeline and goal and tell you plainly whether it's realistic — before any money is discussed. If it isn't a fit, we say so.
Exam Assist handles the sitting end to end. You're matched with an AWS networking specialist who maps the work around the four domains, the OnVUE environment, and the 750 bar — discreetly and confidentially.
You only pay once your passing result is confirmed on your official AWS Certification record. No verified result, nothing owed.
