What is the HCIA-Datacom exam format?
The HCIA-Datacom exam (code H12-811, version V1.0) runs 90 minutes, costs 200 USD, and requires a scaled score of 600 out of 1000 to pass, in English or Chinese. Huawei's official outline publishes ten weighted domains, led by Ethernet switching network construction at 28% and building an IP network with interconnection and interworking at 27%. The Ten Domains and Their Weights

How the Scoring Works
The outline's header table states the scoring directly: Pass Score/Total Score 600/1000. That is a scaled score on a 1000-point scale, not a percentage - 600 does not mean 60% of questions correct, and Huawei publishes no conversion between raw performance and the scaled result. There is no published partial credit rule, no section-level reporting, and no published pass rate.
What that means practically: you cannot count your way to a pass. The bar is the bar, the duration is fixed at 90 minutes, and the only lever you control is preparedness across the weighted domains. When the pass posts, Huawei sends the e-Cert download email within one working day, and the credential is valid three years.
Where and How You Can Sit It
H12-811 runs on Pearson VUE infrastructure. The two routes are a Pearson test center or online proctoring through OnVUE. Pearson hosts a dedicated live Huawei OnVUE page with the program's minimums - Windows 10 or macOS 14 or higher, working webcam, microphone, and speaker (no headphones), one display only, at least 6 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload, and every other application closed.
The eligibility rule matters more than the hardware. Pearson's Huawei program page states that OnVUE is only for candidates residing outside China mainland, that Chinese-language OnVUE appointments are cancelled, and that China-mainland residents who take a Huawei exam through OnVUE face revoked scores, a forfeited certificate, and no refund. Huawei's own Talent portal announced the VUE Online Proctored Exam Service in September 2025, so the at-home route is a first-class delivery option - for eligible residences.
At a test center you present two valid, original, non-expired identity documents (photocopies not accepted), and your registered ID information must match them exactly - a mismatch voids the voucher with no refund. Rescheduling or cancellation must happen at least 24 hours before the appointment or the fee is forfeited.
Fails, Retakes, and Renewal
Huawei's outline does not publish a retake waiting period - unlike vendors such as Dell or Meta, there is no official 'wait N days' line in the H12-811 document. What is official: each sitting is a fresh full fee (US$200 list), and the exam can be rescheduled or canceled free of penalty up to 24 hours before the appointment. Do not trust third-party sites that quote a specific Huawei retake wait; treat the wait as whatever Pearson's scheduling system enforces at booking time.
Once passed, the credential is valid three years per Huawei's Career Certification program.
