AWS online exam: The direct answer
You can take every AWS Certification exam online through Pearson VUE OnVUE or at an available Pearson VUE test center. Choose online when you control a compatible computer, stable private network, quiet room, one display, and uninterrupted testing period. Choose a test center when the facility can control those variables better than your home or office.
For OnVUE, run the program-specific system test on the same device and network before booking. Current Pearson minimums include Windows 10 or macOS 14 or higher, one display, webcam, microphone, speaker without a headset, at least 6 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload, and no VPN, virtual machine, or public network.
The candidate must personally complete check-in and the proctored exam. AWS exam support can help with preparation, booking, and a delivery-risk checklist on pay-after-pass terms, but it cannot supply another test taker, outside answers, a remote connection, or any bypass of AWS and Pearson rules.
Choose OnVUE or a test center by control
AWS describes online proctoring as a private-space appointment on your own computer with screen sharing, webcam monitoring, and remote-proctor communication. Most English appointments are available around the clock. A test center provides the computer, compliant environment, on-site check-in, and storage for personal belongings, with availability set by the facility.
Neither mode is automatically problem-free. Online testing makes you responsible for device compatibility, network stability, room privacy, prohibited software, and household interruptions. Test centers remove most home controls but add travel, appointment supply, unfamiliar hardware, and reliance on the facility's systems.
Use one decision: which environment can you control for the full appointment? A remote candidate with a clean personal laptop, wired private network, and locked quiet room may prefer OnVUE. A candidate on a corporate laptop, shared network, busy home, or unstable power should strongly consider a test center.

Meet current OnVUE technology requirements
Pearson's current general requirements list Windows 10 or macOS 14 or higher, a webcam, microphone, and speaker, one display, at least 6 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload, and the ability to close every application except OnVUE. A headset is not a replacement for the required speaker.
Prohibited technology includes virtual machines, beta operating systems, mobile devices during testing, headphones or earbuds, smart recording or AI devices, secondary or touchscreen displays, VPNs, corporate networks, and public or shared networks. Some exam programs can publish exceptions, so the AWS-specific OnVUE page and appointment terms control.
Run the system test on the same device and network before registration and again near exam day. A work laptop can pass once and fail later after an endpoint-security or policy update. Restart before check-in, stop large network activity, disconnect extra displays, and remove remote-desktop and screen-sharing tools.

Prepare the room, ID, and check-in
Pearson requires a quiet private space. The desk must be empty except for the testing computer and approved items. Clear whiteboards and note boards, remove prohibited electronics, and make sure no other person can enter, pass through, or view the screen. A coffee shop, library, shared office, or bathroom is not an acceptable room.
Use a valid government-issued photo ID whose name exactly matches the booking. AWS also tells candidates to match the first and last names in the AWS Certification Account before registering. Resolve a name problem before exam day rather than expecting the proctor to override identification requirements.
Begin check-in 30 minutes before the appointment. Pearson's process includes technology checks, photos of you and the ID, and a 360-degree room scan. Keep the phone available only for the authorized check-in or technical process, then place it out of arm's reach and follow the proctor's instructions.

Follow online proctoring rules during the exam
The OnVUE session is recorded. Stay in webcam view, keep your eyes and attention on the computer, and follow every on-screen and proctor instruction. Do not speak or read questions aloud unless instructed. Do not let another person see the screen, record content, or enter the room.
Use in-exam chat to contact the proctor. Pearson notes that a proctor cannot pause or extend the exam or troubleshoot the candidate's device and network. If the computer freezes or disconnects, current guidance says to close and relaunch OnVUE from the downloads folder, then use the program's customer-service route if the problem persists.
AWS separately prohibits exam dumps, shared questions, outside answers, proxy testing, and software that could compromise the session. Preparation help must stop at the secure-test boundary. The candidate completes the exam alone, and no support person should connect to the device, communicate answers, or receive exam content.

Recent AWS certification discussions show two real groups. Some candidates report many smooth online appointments and value the lack of travel and wide scheduling hours. Others report frozen check-in, strict room or behavior enforcement, network anxiety, background-noise risk, long proctor waits, or disputed terminations.
Test centers also receive mixed reports. Many candidates prefer the managed computer, quiet room, and on-site staff. Others describe travel, limited slots, noisy locations, aging equipment, or center-side outages. These are personal reports, not proof that one mode always succeeds.
Use the reports to identify failure modes, then use official rules to control them. Test the exact device and network, verify the speaker instead of relying on a headset, remove corporate controls, lock the room, and start early. For a test center, inspect distance, arrival requirements, appointment availability, and recent facility feedback.

Choose the lower-risk AWS exam mode
Choose OnVUE when you have a supported personal computer, stable private internet, one approved display, working speaker, quiet lockable room, compatible ID, and complete control over other people and devices. Run the system test before booking; a theoretical setup is not enough.
Choose a test center when you use a corporate laptop, depend on a VPN or public network, cannot prevent interruptions, lack a compliant room, or would spend the exam worrying about the home setup. Travel is a known cost, while an uncontrolled home environment can become an exam-risk cost.
If both are viable, compare the exam length and your concentration needs. A short Foundational appointment may be easier to control at home than a longer Professional session, but that is a planning judgment rather than an AWS rule. Use the same evidence: system test, room control, travel, slot, and personal focus.

Prepare for an OnVUE technical incident
Before check-in, save the appointment confirmation, candidate-support link, exam code, and device system-test result. Close every application, restart the computer, and stop other network use. Do not add software, operating-system updates, security tools, or network changes between the final system test and the appointment unless required.
During the appointment, use authorized chat and follow the proctor. If the application freezes or disconnects, Pearson currently instructs candidates to close and relaunch OnVUE from the downloads folder. Do not start another device, allow someone into the room, photograph the screen, or use outside messaging to troubleshoot.
After an unresolved incident, preserve the time, symptom, case number, proctor instruction, and written response. Do not call the outcome a fail until the account says so, and do not book a paid retake before the provider decides the case. The standard 14-day and full-fee retake rules apply to confirmed failures, not every technical dispute.
