AWS certification cost: The direct answer

AWS certification cost is set by exam level. The current official base price is USD 100 for a Foundational exam, USD 150 for an Associate exam, and USD 300 for a Professional or Specialty exam. Each price is valid for one attempt, and applicable tax can increase the amount charged.

That makes AWS Solutions Architect Associate and Developer Associate USD 150 each before tax. If you fail, the standard rule is another full registration fee after a 14-calendar-day wait. If you pass an AWS exam, AWS lists access to a 50% discount voucher as a certified-individual benefit for recertification or another exam.

Use the published fee as the baseline, not the whole budget. Add tax, travel if you choose a test center, and a second-attempt reserve. If a deadline is close, AWS exam support can help you plan preparation and booking on pay-after-pass terms; you still take the proctored exam personally and comply with every provider rule.

Current AWS exam fees by certification level

AWS prices certification attempts by tier rather than by individual exam name. Cloud Practitioner and AI Practitioner sit at Foundational level. Solutions Architect, Developer, CloudOps, Data Engineer, and Machine Learning Engineer credentials sit at Associate level. Professional and current Specialty exams use the highest published fee.

The official table also publishes selected local currencies. Those amounts are useful when they match the candidate's authorized purchase route, but they are not a promise that every country, card, voucher, or checkout uses the same currency. AWS says taxes can apply and local-currency rates are reviewed at least annually in May.

Use the current exam page to confirm that the credential is still active and belongs to the level you expect. AWS can launch, rename, or retire exams, and a familiar old exam code is not enough to establish today's fee or booking availability.

What the AWS exam fee includes

The published fee buys one proctored exam attempt. Scheduling happens from the AWS Certification Account through Pearson VUE. The candidate chooses an available online-proctored appointment or test center, subject to the exam's delivery options, language, location, and accommodation needs.

The fee is not a course bundle, practice-test subscription, guaranteed retake, or pass guarantee. Preparation products sold by AWS Skill Builder or third parties are separate purchases. An employer, school, or voucher distributor may pay the fee, but the registration still belongs to the named candidate and must follow AWS identity and testing rules.

Avoid paying twice for overlapping preparation. Start with the current exam guide and official resources, then add a lab, course, or practice set only when it closes a measured gap. A large resource stack can make the total look professional while leaving the actual exam decisions and hands-on skills untouched.

  • One exam appointment for the named candidate.
  • Online or test-center delivery when offered for that exam and location.
  • Official result and score-report access under the current AWS reporting process.
  • No included second attempt under the standard policy.
  • No included training course unless a separate offer explicitly says so.

Local currency, tax, and voucher rules

AWS currently publishes AUD, EUR, JPY, KRW, CNY, and INR alongside USD. Applicable tax can still change the final charge. AWS also says exchange rates for those currencies are updated at least annually in May and may change more frequently with a minimum of 30 days notice.

INR has a specific boundary: AWS says it is accepted on the Pearson Mindhub voucher store only for exam-voucher purchases. A candidate in India should therefore distinguish buying an authorized voucher in INR from paying directly during the scheduling checkout. Save the invoice, voucher terms, expiration, and exam-level coverage before relying on it.

A voucher intended to cover 100% of an exam remains valid for the full exam price despite a later exchange-rate update. A voucher intended for 50% covers half of the price at the time of purchase. That rule addresses exchange-rate updates; it does not override an expiration date, region restriction, exam restriction, or nontransferable term.

1

Confirm the exam level

Match the current credential and exam code to Foundational, Associate, Professional, or Specialty pricing.

2

Check the purchase route

Identify whether you are paying in the AWS scheduling flow or using an authorized Pearson Mindhub voucher.

3

Read voucher limits

Verify value, eligible exam, region, expiration, refund terms, and whether the voucher is assigned to one candidate.

4

Save the final total

Record the fee, currency, tax, and confirmation before closing the transaction.

How the earned 50% AWS exam benefit works

AWS lists a 50% discount voucher among the benefits for AWS Certified individuals. The benefit can be used toward recertification or another exam. The critical word is certified: this is not a standard first-attempt discount for someone who has never passed an AWS Certification exam.

Access the benefit through the certified individual's AWS Certification Account and apply it only under the account's current terms. Do not share it, sell it, move it to a different identity, or assume two discounts can be stacked. AWS and Pearson can change promotional and voucher terms independently of the permanent benefit description.

For a two-exam path, the benefit can change the arithmetic. A Cloud Practitioner attempt at USD 100 followed by a discounted Associate attempt at USD 75 totals USD 175 before tax if the benefit is available and applied. Going directly to one Associate attempt costs USD 150. The extra Foundational credential therefore still adds USD 25 and preparation time; choose it for learning value, not a fictional saving.

Retake, reschedule, and refund costs

A failed attempt has the clearest cost consequence: AWS requires a 14-calendar-day wait and the full registration fee for every retake under the standard policy. There is no published limit on failed attempts. A candidate who rushes three Associate attempts would therefore spend USD 450 before tax, even though the attempts must be separated by the wait.

Rescheduling is not unlimited. AWS says an exam can be rescheduled twice. It also says a candidate who paid by card or cash does not owe an additional amount only because an exchange-rate update occurs before the new appointment. The appointment confirmation remains the controlling place for deadlines and delivery-provider instructions.

For cancellation, AWS states that canceling more than 24 hours before the appointment triggers a refund of the exam fee paid at purchase. That wording does not promise a refund inside 24 hours, after a no-show, or after a policy termination. Use the official support route for a technical interruption instead of assuming it is either a normal failure or an automatic refund.

Why candidate discount reports need verification

AWS candidates regularly discuss temporary vouchers, free-retake offers, employer benefits, student programs, and third-party bundles. The recurring problem is expiry: a code can work in one region or month and disappear before another candidate books. A forum post is useful evidence of what people are confused about, not proof that an offer is active for you.

Recent Reddit discussions repeatedly ask whether a promotion still works, whether it applies to Solutions Architect Associate, whether two offers stack, and whether a voucher bought under one email can be used with another account. Treat all of those as prompts to read current official terms. Do not search for account loopholes, share a certified-person benefit, or buy from an unauthorized seller.

The durable plan uses the official list price, then subtracts a discount only after it appears in your authorized account or checkout. That prevents an expired promotion from turning a booked deadline into an unexpected full-fee decision.

Official fact

AWS publishes base prices, pricing policies, and a 50% certified-individual benefit on its own certification pages.

Build a realistic AWS exam budget

Start with the current fee and tax, then reserve the same fee for one retake if the credential is tied to a job, renewal, or project deadline. Add test-center travel or the real online-testing requirements. Keep preparation spending separate so you can decide whether a course, lab, or practice set changes a known weakness.

Next map the calendar. The retake page covers the 14-day wait, while the renewal guide explains when an active credential needs action. The online exam guide helps decide whether travel or home-environment control is the better cost tradeoff. A cheaper delivery choice is not cheaper if it creates an avoidable no-show or technical failure.

If you need a focused plan, use the AWS exam-help route or book AWS assistance with the exam code, current practice evidence, budget, and deadline. Support is available on pay-after-pass terms, but it does not replace your identity, your hands-on preparation, or the requirement that you personally complete the proctored exam.

1

Price one attempt

Record the current level fee, checkout currency, tax, and any authorized voucher actually available.

2

Reserve a retake

Add one full attempt and at least 14 calendar days when the deadline makes failure costly.

3

Add delivery costs

Include test-center travel or the device, room, network, and privacy controls required for OnVUE.

4

Fund measured preparation

Buy only the resource or support that repairs a documented knowledge, timing, or scheduling gap.

5

Protect renewal

Include future recertification or maintenance when comparing the long-term value of a credential.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an AWS certification exam cost? +
The current official base prices are USD 100 for Foundational exams, USD 150 for Associate exams, and USD 300 for Professional or Specialty exams. The price covers one attempt. Applicable tax and the supported checkout currency can change the total, so confirm the final amount in the AWS Certification Account or authorized Pearson VUE flow before paying.
How much does the AWS Solutions Architect Associate exam cost? +
AWS Solutions Architect Associate is an Associate-level exam, so its current base fee is USD 150 for one attempt. AWS also publishes selected local-currency prices, including EUR, AUD, JPY, KRW, CNY, and INR for Pearson Mindhub voucher purchases. Tax may apply.
Does AWS give a 50% exam discount? +
AWS lists a 50% exam discount voucher as a benefit for AWS Certified individuals. It can be applied to recertification or another exam through the candidate's AWS Certification Account. It is earned after certification; it is not a default discount on a first exam and should not be shared or treated as a permanent public promotion.
Do I pay again if I fail an AWS exam? +
Yes under the standard policy. AWS requires the full registration fee for each failed-attempt retake and a 14-calendar-day wait before the next attempt. A temporary free-retake promotion can change that for an eligible booking, but promotional terms are separate from the evergreen policy and must be verified before purchase.
Can I reschedule an AWS exam without paying again? +
AWS says candidates who paid by card or cash do not owe an additional amount merely because an exchange-rate update occurs before a rescheduled appointment. An AWS Certification exam can be rescheduled twice. Review the confirmation email and Pearson VUE terms for the applicable timing rules before changing an appointment.
Can I get a refund if I cancel an AWS exam? +
AWS states that a candidate who cancels more than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment will be refunded the exam fee paid at purchase. Do not assume the same outcome inside 24 hours or after a missed appointment; check the booking terms and contact the official delivery provider for the case.
Can I pay an AWS exam fee in Indian rupees? +
AWS publishes INR prices but adds an important limitation: INR is accepted on the Pearson Mindhub voucher store for exam-voucher purchases. That does not mean every scheduling checkout accepts INR. The current published prices are ₹8,553 for Foundational, ₹12,829.50 for Associate, and ₹25,659 for Professional or Specialty before applicable tax.
What should I budget beyond the AWS exam fee? +
Budget the attempt fee, applicable tax, any travel to a test center, a possible second full-fee attempt, and only the preparation resources you will actually use. For online testing, include a reliable compatible device, private room, and stable connection rather than assuming remote delivery has no practical cost.
