ARA-C01
The SnowPro Advanced: Architect (ARA-C01) is Snowflake's senior-level credential for engineers who design, secure, and optimize enterprise data platforms on Snowflake. It is a scenario-heavy exam — not a recall quiz — that assumes you already hold SnowPro Core and have hands-on architect experience. Pass it and you signal employers and clients that you can make load-bearing platform decisions; fail it and you wait through a 7-day cooldown plus another $375 before you can sit again. This page breaks down exactly what's tested, how the exam is delivered, and how to get it done right.

How the SnowPro Advanced: Architect exam is built — at a glance
65
That's under 1 minute 50 seconds per question. Many items are multi-line scenarios, so reading speed and quick elimination matter as much as raw knowledge.
750
Results are reported on a 0–1000 scale; 750 is the pass line, roughly 75% correct. One overall score decides it — there's no per-domain minimum.
3
Multiple choice, multiple select (pick N correct), and true/false. Multi-select items award no partial credit, so they're the easiest place to lose points.
ARA-C01 is a fixed, linear exam — every candidate sees 65 questions and difficulty does not adapt to your answers. You can flag items, skip ahead, and revisit anything before you submit, so budget a final pass to revisit flagged scenarios.
Questions describe real architectural trade-offs — replication and failover, secure data sharing, clustering, virtual warehouse sizing, resource monitors. You're picking the design that best fits the stated constraints, not reciting syntax. Closed-book, English only.
Four weighted domains — bars show each domain's share of the exam
The largest domain: multi-cluster and multi-account design, database replication and failover, secure data sharing, Snowgrid, and choosing the right deployment topology for resilience and governance.
Role hierarchies and RBAC, authentication and SSO, network policies, column- and row-level security, masking and tagging, and data protection strategies across an enterprise account.
Designing ingestion and transformation: Snowpipe and streams/tasks, semi-structured data, external functions and stages, data pipelines, and how architecture choices shape the engineering layer.
Clustering keys and micro-partitions, warehouse sizing and scaling policies, caching layers, query profiling, materialized views, and balancing performance against credit consumption.
Domain weights are approximate and set by Snowflake's published exam guide. Because there is no per-domain pass mark, a single overall scaled score of 750 decides the result — but with Architecture and Security together making up more than half the exam, weakness there is hard to offset elsewhere.
Two ways to sit ARA-C01 — and what to expect on test day
You sit the exam in a quiet, monitored room at a Pearson VUE center. Staff verify your government-issued ID, store your belongings, and watch the room. You're given a workstation and an erasable noteboard. The exam fee is $375 USD.
You take the exam from a private room at home, monitored by AI plus a live OnVUE proctor. You'll run a system test, do a webcam room scan, and complete an ID check beforehand. No scratch paper is allowed on the online version — only the on-screen whiteboard.
A valid, unexpired government photo ID with a name that matches your Pearson VUE registration exactly. The proctor captures a photo before the exam unlocks.
A clear desk, no second monitor, no phone within reach, and a 360° webcam scan of the room. No one else may enter while the exam is in progress.
Stay in frame and on-camera throughout — there are no scheduled breaks in 115 minutes. Reading aloud, leaving the seat, or losing connection can flag or pause the session.
Built for senior practitioners designing on Snowflake
A real prerequisite — and a genuinely hard exam
Difficulty: ARA-C01 is widely regarded as one of the tougher Snowflake exams. It rewards production experience over memorization, and the 750/1000 bar with no partial credit on multi-select items leaves little margin. That blend of breadth and time pressure is exactly the pressure point our help is designed to remove.
The SnowPro Advanced: Architect exam is a high-stakes, scenario-dense test with a real $375 retake cost and a 7-day cooldown if it goes wrong. Exam Assist pairs you with a vetted Snowflake specialist and works on a pay-after-you-pass model — so the risk sits with us, not you. No upfront fee, guaranteed results: Exam Assist handles the sitting end to end, and you settle only after the verified result.
