Grading is objective and automated: after the exam your systems are checked against expected outcomes. Configurations that aren't persistent — a mount missing from /etc/fstab, a service not enabled at boot — score zero even if they worked while you were logged in. Navigate the shell, work with files and links, redirect input/output, use grep and regular expressions, archive and compress, and read man pages efficiently.
Boot to different targets, interrupt the boot process to reset a root password, manage processes and services with systemd, and schedule tasks with cron and at.
Partition disks, create and extend LVM volumes, build and mount file systems and swap, and configure persistent mounts — including network file systems.
Install and update software with dnf, manage repositories, work with system logs and time sync, and modify the bootloader and kernel runtime parameters.
Configure IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, hostnames, and name resolution with nmcli; set up static routing and the firewall; and configure key-based SSH access.
Create and manage users and groups, configure password aging and sudo, set file permissions and ACLs, and manage SELinux modes, contexts, and booleans.
Red Hat also expects RHCSA candidates to manage basic containers — pulling and running images, configuring them to start as systemd services, and attaching persistent storage — using Podman. Because the exam is task-based, your job is not to recite these objectives but to execute them flawlessly under the clock.

You sit the EX200 from your own location. You boot a Red Hat-supplied live USB image that turns your machine into a locked-down exam station, then a live remote proctor verifies your ID and watches you by webcam throughout.
