Questions are multiple choice (one answer) and multiple select (choose several). There are no hands-on labs and no calculator. Each case study presents a fictional company — its business goals, technical constraints, and existing setup — and several questions reference it. You can re-read the scenario on a split screen at any time, so reading carefully beats memorizing.
Google uses a scaled scoring model and reports only a Pass or Fail outcome — you never see a number or a percentage. There is no published cut score and no per-section breakdown, so you cannot lean on one strong domain to carry a weak one. A provisional result appears on screen at the end, with the official confirmation following by email.

Because the six domains overlap inside every case study, the PCA rewards architects who can reason across them at once — for example, weighing a networking choice against its IAM, cost, and reliability consequences. Memorizing service feature lists is rarely enough; the exam tests judgment about trade-offs.
Two ways to sit the exam — both run through Pearson VUE
You sit the exam onsite in a quiet, monitored room. Staff verify your government-issued ID, store your belongings, and watch the room throughout. This is the lowest-friction option if you want a controlled environment and no software setup on your own machine.
You take the exam remotely from a private room using Pearson's OnVUE software, monitored by a live proctor. You will run a system check, a webcam room scan, and an ID check beforehand. The fee is the same $200 USD. Connectivity and a clean workspace are critical — a dropped connection can interrupt the session.
A valid, unexpired government photo ID with a name that exactly matches your Pearson VUE registration. The proctor captures your photo before the exam unlocks.
