ITF+ sits one rung below CompTIA A+ on the certification ladder. It is designed for people deciding whether IT is the right field for them before investing in A+, Network+, or Security+. As of August 2024, CompTIA refreshed this tier as Tech+ (FC0-U71), retiring the FC0-U61 code on July 31, 2025.

Infrastructure and Security together make up 42% of the exam, so those two domains deserve the most attention. The remaining four are lighter but still examined — and because results are pass/fail, a weak domain cannot be offset by a flashy score elsewhere.
Two ways to sit the exam — and what to expect on test day
You sit the exam in a quiet, monitored room at a Pearson VUE center. Staff verify your government-issued ID, store your belongings, and watch the room. No personal items or notes are allowed at the workstation, and the exam runs on a center-provided computer.
You take the exam from a private room at home through OnVUE, Pearson's remote-proctoring platform. Beforehand you run a system check, photograph your ID, and scan the room with your webcam. A live proctor monitors you for the full hour, so a stable connection and a quiet space are essential.
