Your correct answers are converted to a scaled score from 100 to 1000 so results stay comparable across exam forms of slightly different difficulty. You pass at 720. The score report includes a section-level table showing relative strengths and weaknesses, but only the overall score determines whether you passed.
AWS retired the SysOps Administrator - Associate (SOA-C02) on 29 September 2025 and replaced it with the CloudOps Engineer - Associate (SOA-C03) the next day. It is the same operations credential, restructured into five domains, with containers, multi-account and multi-Region operations, and infrastructure as code now carrying more weight. Older SysOps certificates remain valid for their full three years.

IAM users, roles, and policies; data protection with KMS and ACM; secrets management; AWS Config, GuardDuty, and Security Hub for compliance; and enforcing least-privilege access across accounts.
The three operational domains — monitoring, reliability, and deployment — make up two-thirds of the scored content, so the exam rewards engineers who have actually run workloads rather than memorized service names. Because the model is compensatory, a strong showing in your best domains can offset a weaker one, but you still need a genuine working knowledge of every area to clear 720.
Two ways to sit the exam — and what to expect on test day
You sit the exam in a quiet, monitored room at a Pearson VUE center. Staff verify your government-issued ID, store your belongings in a locker, and watch the room throughout. No personal materials are allowed — scratch is provided by the center. The $150 fee is the same as the online option.
You take the exam from a private room using the OnVUE software, monitored by a live remote proctor over webcam and microphone. You run a system check, an ID scan, and a 360° room scan before the exam unlocks. No scratch paper is allowed online — only a physical or virtual whiteboard. A stable connection is essential.
A valid, unexpired government photo ID whose name matches your AWS Certification (Pearson VUE) account exactly. The proctor captures your photo and ID before the exam unlocks.
A clear desk, no second monitor, no phone or notes within reach, and a full webcam scan of the room. No one else may enter, and you cannot leave the camera frame during the exam.
Stay on-camera the whole 130 minutes — there are no scheduled breaks. Talking aloud, reading questions out, looking off-screen, or a dropped connection can pause or void the session.
