The voucher rules are strict and worth reading before anyone buys on your behalf. Vouchers cannot be redeemed in a different country from where they were purchased. They are non-refundable and non-transferable. Choosing the wrong tier makes the voucher unusable with no reimbursement. Expiration dates cannot be extended. The exam fee is not the biggest cost on the VMCE+ path - the mandatory training is. Veeam's FAQ and the exam specification both make the three courses a hard prerequisite: Veeam Backup & Replication: Configure, Manage, and Recover; Veeam Data Platform: Monitor, Manage, Analyze (Veeam ONE); and Veeam Data Platform: Scale, Automate, Secure (Veeam Recovery Orchestrator). Retake Economics: Every Attempt Is a Full New Sitting
There is no discounted retake voucher in what Veeam and Pearson publish - a failed attempt means buying the sitting again at your country tier's price. The official retake ladder spaces those purchases out: a 24-hour wait after the first failed attempt, 14 days after attempts two through four, and a 12-month wait after attempt five before attempts six through nine open up.
That ladder makes the first sitting the cheapest one to get right. Two failed attempts inside a month cost two full vouchers plus the wait; a fifth failure benches the candidacy for a year. The pass side of the ledger is friendlier: once you pass, the exam locks until the next major version, and Veeam credentials do not expire - no recurring recertification fee, with the caveat that Veeam ProPartners may need to refresh credentials for program compliance.
The Family Map: What Each Veeam Credential Costs to Reach
The current Veeam family has two proctored credentials. The VMCE+ v13 costs the engineer-tier voucher plus the 55+ hour three-course bundle. The VMCSE - the security credential - requires holding a valid VMCE+ first and then completing the Enterprise Data Security training, which University PRO lists at 16+ hours self-paced; Veeam's pages still mark the VMCSE as coming soon, and no public exam guide or separate voucher line was published at retrieval time.
The retired credentials cost nothing further: the legacy VMCE and VMCA are retired, existing holders keep their credentials because Veeam credentials do not expire, and holders download their certificates and badges from their Credly profile. Budget questions about the VMCE+ belong to Pearson's voucher store; budget questions about training belong to the channel partner quoting the subscription.
