SAT in India: the quick answer

The SAT in India uses the worldwide SAT Weekend calendar and the international registration flow, but several decisions are India-specific. The current base price is $111 before optional charges. India accepts only specified physical passport, Common Access Card, or Aadhaar documents, does not offer Sunday SAT testing, and does not participate in the U.S.-only Waitlist.

The exam is digital in Bluebook but is taken at an official test center. Center availability is confirmed during registration, not through a permanent city list. Students normally prepare and bring an approved device, although a College Board loan device can be requested at least 30 days before testing when no suitable device can be borrowed.

Income-eligible Class XI and XII students living in India may qualify for a 50% or 90% India Scholars registration voucher. That country program is separate from the ordinary SAT fee-waiver rules, which outside the U.S. are limited to eligible U.S. citizens living abroad. SAT dates and deadlines for India

India follows the same eight published 2026-27 SAT Weekend dates as U.S. and other international students. Five administrations run from August through December 2026, followed by March, May, and June 2027. A worldwide date does not guarantee that every Indian center participates or has space, so pair the calendar with the signed-in registration flow.

College Board publishes every deadline at 11:59 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time. Treat the regular date as a final cutoff rather than a suggested booking day. Registering earlier gives you more center choices, more time to correct an account or ID mismatch, and enough lead time to request a loan device if needed.

Students requesting a College Board device have an earlier practical deadline: registration and the device request must be completed at least 30 days before test day. Recheck the official calendar before acting because dates and registration status are volatile.

SAT fees and India Scholars discounts

College Board currently charges $68 to register for the SAT and adds a $43 international fee, making the standard India total $111 before optional charges. Keep the official amounts in U.S. dollars. An INR estimate can become wrong with the exchange rate, card conversion, and checkout timing, so the page should not promise a rupee total.

The additional-fee schedule is explicitly published through December 2026. It lists $38 for late registration, $34 to change a test center, $34 for regular cancellation, and $44 for late cancellation. A $24 test-center fee applies at select international locations, but it is not an India-wide charge. Confirm any surcharge in the current official fee page and checkout.

India also has a separate College Board India Scholars route. Income-eligible students living in India in Class XI or XII can apply for a discount voucher before registration. This program should not be described as a universal international fee waiver.

Which ID is accepted in India

The India-specific identification rules control what you bring to an Indian SAT center. College Board names a valid passport carrying your name, photograph, and signature; a U.S. Common Access Card; and Aadhaar in the original letter or PVC Card form. The document and admission ticket must show the same full legal name.

The Aadhaar format matters. An original hard-copy Aadhaar letter issued by the government and an Aadhaar PVC Card are allowed. A downloaded e-Aadhaar, a printout, a copy, a screenshot, or an e-card is not. A successful registration photo upload does not make an unacceptable identity document valid.

Do not fall back to the general page's school-ID examples. The India section provides a narrower country list. If you travel to another country for the SAT, College Board's outside-your-home-country rule requires a valid passport, apart from its narrow Common Access Card exception.

How to register and pay from India

International students register online through a personal College Board account. College Board says the student must complete the registration rather than having a parent or counselor register on the student's behalf. The process takes about 30 minutes and can be saved and resumed.

Before starting, choose a preferred date and backup, prepare a compliant head-on photo, and make the account name match the physical ID you will bring. During registration, enter identifying information, select the test date and center, upload the photo, review fees, and complete payment. Fixing a name problem after registration can take support time, so compare every spelling before checkout.

College Board accepts American Express, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, Visa, and PayPal. That list does not guarantee that one Indian bank will approve an international transaction. Treat any issuer setting, conversion rate, or temporary payment failure as bank-specific rather than publishing it as an SAT rule.

How to choose an SAT test center in India

Use College Board's test-center search to discover locations that offer the SAT for a selected date, then use registration to confirm the seat. College Board tells students to consider multiple locations because not every listed center has space. A permanent India center table would confuse availability across dates and become stale as centers join, fill, or close.

Choose a center by practical risk, not just straight-line distance. Compare the route, expected arrival time, device transport, and a backup date. If a preferred center has no seat, India does not have the U.S.-only Waitlist, so compare another center or administration while registration remains open.

After booking, monitor the official closure tool. College Board says fully closed centers appear there, data is refreshed every three hours, and changes can occur on short notice, including test day. Check the night before and again on the morning of the SAT, along with any message tied to your registration.

Bluebook device rules for India test takers

The SAT is digital, but SAT Weekend is not an at-home test. You take it in Bluebook at the registered center and normally bring a prepared approved device. Current supported categories include a compatible Windows device, Mac, iPad, or school-managed Chromebook. A phone and personal Chromebook cannot run the test.

The August 2026 administration begins an important technology boundary. College Board says Bluebook requires Windows 11 and will no longer work on Windows 10. A Chromebook must be managed by a school and have verified mode enabled. Check the live device page because operating-system limits can change during the cycle.

Download Bluebook and run its device test at least 30 days before the SAT. One to five days before testing, complete exam setup on the device you will use so the exam downloads and an admission ticket is generated. Charge the device and bring a power cable or portable charger without assuming the center will provide an outlet.

How device lending works in India

If you cannot use or borrow an approved device, College Board may lend one for SAT Weekend. Register for a date at least 30 days away and select the registration response showing that you do not know whether you have access to the required device. After registration, open My SAT and submit the device request at least 30 days before test day.

A nonfamily adult such as a teacher, counselor, adviser, or school administrator verifies eligibility. Submitting the request does not guarantee approval or a device. If College Board approves it, the device is shipped to the test center and is already configured for Bluebook.

An approved student arrives 30 minutes before the standard check-in time, collects the device, signs in, completes exam setup, and receives the admission ticket. Practice earlier on another Bluebook-capable device or with official browser-based resources so test morning is not the first time you see the digital tools.

India rules that differ from general SAT advice

Several broadly written SAT guides become wrong when copied into an India page. Sunday testing can be requested for religious reasons in some countries, but College Board explicitly says it is not available in India. The fall 2026 Waitlist helps eligible students in the U.S.; it is not an international or India registration route.

The ordinary College Board fee waiver also has a geographic boundary. Outside the U.S., it is limited to eligible U.S. citizens living abroad. An Indian national living and testing in India should review the separate India Scholars voucher rather than assume that a general U.S. fee-waiver form applies.

Identification creates the third boundary. General acceptable-ID examples do not replace India's country-specific list. Use the passport, allowed Aadhaar, or Common Access Card rules and keep the full legal name consistent. Students approved for accommodations should separately confirm their current approval and registration details rather than assuming a school arrangement transfers automatically to SAT Weekend.

Test-day checklist for an India center

One to five days before the SAT, open Bluebook on the approved device, sign in, and complete exam setup. Save the current admission ticket and prefer a printed copy. Recheck the account name against the accepted physical passport or Aadhaar document instead of discovering a mismatch at the center.

Charge the testing device and bring its power cable or a portable charger. Pack pens or pencils for scratch work, the College Board username and password, and an approved calculator if you want one; Bluebook also includes a calculator. Follow any separate instructions attached to approved accommodations.

The night before and again on test morning, check College Board's center-closing tool and recent registration messages. Confirm the route and arrival time without assuming a center will wait for missing ID or a late arrival. Keep the physical ID with you throughout the administration because staff may check it more than once.

Build a practical India SAT timeline

Start from the college application or scholarship deadline that needs an SAT score. Choose a primary date early enough to leave a backup administration, then compare live centers before building travel plans. If an India Scholars voucher may apply, request it before paying. If a loan device may be needed, treat 30 days before testing as a hard planning boundary.
