The Current SAT Test Day Checklist

This SAT test day checklist starts with one rule: the digital SAT is taken in Bluebook at an authorized school or test center, not at home. For SAT Weekend, bring a fully charged approved device with setup complete, an electronic or printed ticket, original physical photo ID, pencils or pens, and your College Board username and password.

  • •Fully charged approved testing device
  • •Bluebook installed and SAT Weekend exam setup complete
  • •Electronic or printed admission ticket generated by Bluebook
  • •Valid original physical photo ID with a matching full legal name
  • •Pencils or pens for scratch work
  • •College Board username and password
  • •Optional approved non-CAS handheld calculator
  • •Optional power cable or portable charger; an outlet is not guaranteed

One Month Before: Confirm an Approved Device

Download Bluebook as early as possible on the device you plan to use. For SAT Weekend, supported categories are a Windows laptop or tablet, a Mac laptop, an iPad, or a school-managed Chromebook. A mobile phone, personal Chromebook, and ChromeOS Flex device are not supported. School-managed Chromebooks must also use verified mode.

Windows users need special attention for the fall 2026 cycle. College Board says Bluebook will not work on Windows 10 starting in fall 2026. Use a supported Windows 11 device; S mode and Windows 11 SE are not supported. For every platform, recheck the approved-device page because minimum and maximum versions can change.

If you cannot obtain a suitable device from family or school, request a College Board loan at least 30 days before the test. Do not wait for test week. If you will use a school-managed device at a different school or center, resolve permissions early because test-day staff may not be able to change your school's management settings.

1-5 Days Before: Complete Bluebook Exam Setup

For SAT Weekend, open Bluebook on the exact device you plan to use and complete exam setup 1-5 days before testing. Setup downloads your exam and generates your admission ticket. Installed is not the same as ready: a device can have the app without having the current test downloaded or ticket generated.

Bring the admission ticket electronically or as a printout. The ticket and testing rules allow either form, but neither replaces your physical photo ID. If you are approved for a College Board loaner, the process differs: arrive according to the loan instructions, complete setup on the supplied device with staff, and receive the ticket then.

Use this window to verify the test center, session, arrival instruction, and any center change or closing. Check the Bluebook test card, email, My SAT, the official closings page, and the center's own website. Do not rely on an arrival time copied from an older article when your live ticket says something else.

Bring Acceptable Original Physical ID

Your admission ticket is not sufficient identification. College Board requires a valid, unexpired original physical photo ID. It cannot be a photocopy, screenshot, electronic document, or digital ID. The full legal name must match the admission ticket, and the photograph must be recent and recognizable.

Common acceptable examples include a government-issued driver's license or non-driver ID, a current-school student ID, a passport, a military or national ID, and in limited US-center cases an SAT Student ID Form. Students who will be 21 or older on test day must use official government-issued photo ID; a student ID is not accepted for that age group.

International situations need a fresh policy check. If you travel to another country to test, College Board generally requires a valid passport, with a limited official exception. Several countries list their own accepted documents. Use the live country-specific section rather than assuming that a national card or school ID will work everywhere.

  • •Original physical document, not electronic or photocopied
  • •Valid and unexpired
  • •Full legal name exactly matches the admission ticket
  • •Recent recognizable photo and clearly legible document
  • •Government-issued photo ID required at age 21 or older
  • •Country-specific rules checked if testing internationally

Pack the Right Calculator and Optional Items

You do not need to bring a handheld calculator. Bluebook provides Desmos scientific and graphing options throughout Math. If you prefer a handheld, it must be an approved non-CAS graphing, scientific, or four-function calculator. CAS models, symbolic-algebra programs, QWERTY keyboards, wireless connectivity, cameras, and phone calculator apps are prohibited.

A handheld calculator can be used only during Math. Clear stored documents and prohibited algebra programs, turn off sound, keep the cover under the desk, and do not share it. Calculator power cords are not allowed, so use fresh batteries. If the handheld fails, continue with Bluebook's built-in Desmos rather than spending test time repairing it.

Useful optional items are a device power cord or portable charger, a silent watch, a drink or snack for the break, and a bag. If you have approved embedded text-to-speech, bring the required wired, non-Bluetooth headphones. For other medical devices or accommodations, follow the specific approval and official instructions rather than a generic packing list.

Built-in option

Bluebook includes scientific and graphing Desmos calculators throughout Math, so a handheld is optional.

Handheld rule

Bring only a familiar non-CAS calculator, clear prohibited programs and documents, turn off sound, and use it only during Math.

Power rule

Bring a power cord or portable charger for the testing device, but do not expect an outlet. Calculator power cords are not allowed.

Accommodation item

Students approved for embedded text-to-speech need their own wired, non-Bluetooth headphones; follow all approval-specific instructions.

Follow Live Arrival and In-Room Rules

Your admission ticket controls the test-center address, session, and arrival time. College Board publishes a sample Saturday schedule, but it also tells students to confirm the ticket because times can differ. Students with a borrowed device, approved accommodations, or a selected afternoon session may have different instructions.

At check-in, staff compare the roster, ticket, registration photo, and physical ID. Your seat is assigned. You connect to the center network, open Bluebook, follow instructions, and enter the start code provided by the proctor. You can move among questions inside the current module, but you cannot return after a module ends.

Close every unapproved application before testing. Phones and other internet-connected devices cannot be accessed during the test or breaks. Do not use websites, notes, AI tools, answer keys, messages, or another person's help. Follow staff directions about storing devices and wait to be dismissed before leaving.

  • •Use the live ticket and center notice for arrival
  • •Keep physical ID with you, including during breaks
  • •Close all apps except Bluebook or approved assistive technology
  • •Do not access phones, websites, notes, messages, or AI tools
  • •Stay within the current module and follow all staff directions
  • •Do not leave until testing staff dismiss you

What to Do If Technology Fails

Raise your hand immediately if Bluebook freezes, the device will not start, the battery falls unexpectedly, the network drops, or the test does not submit. Do not spend several minutes troubleshooting silently. Test-center staff control the authorized response and can tell you what to do without risking a rule violation.

Do not open other applications, search the web, disable security settings, or switch devices on your own. College Board lists a backup approved testing device as an optional item, but that does not authorize a self-directed switch during a live exam. Tell staff that you brought one and use it only if they direct the process.

Bluebook saves answers on the device if submission fails. College Board says students have time to resubmit and need to do so by the end of the following day. Follow the instructions shown by Bluebook and the test center; preserve the device and do not delete the app or test data while the submission is unresolved.

1

Report the issue

Raise your hand at once and describe exactly what happened without leaving Bluebook or changing settings.

2

Follow staff directions

Testing staff decide whether to reconnect, restart, move power, or use another approved device.

3

Do not self-switch

A backup device may be brought as an optional item, but use it only when staff explicitly direct the switch.

4

Protect the submission

If submission fails, keep the test data intact and follow Bluebook's resubmission instructions by the stated deadline.

Adjust the Checklist for School Day or Accommodations

This checklist is built around SAT Weekend. For SAT School Day, your school registers you and tells you how to prepare the device, when to arrive, and which local procedures apply. Do not assume that a Weekend setup or ticket step replaces school instructions.

Approved accommodations can change timing, breaks, assistive technology, room assignment, and whether testing happens at a weekend center or school. Confirm that the approval appears on the relevant registration and ticket, then follow the accommodation-specific Bluebook and College Board directions. A diagnosis, IEP, or 504 plan alone does not replace College Board approval.

Students approved for embedded text-to-speech need wired, non-Bluetooth headphones for the applicable administration. Other medical devices may need separate handling. Check the official accommodations guide early, because resolving an approval or registration mismatch on test morning is often too late.

Run a Final Legitimate Readiness Check

The night before, place the approved device, charger, physical ID, ticket, username and password, pencils or pens, approved calculator if used, and permitted break items together. Charge the device fully, silence the handheld calculator and watch, confirm transport, and check the live center status again in the morning.

If a registration, device, accommodations, or planning issue remains unresolved, Exam Assist can help you organize legitimate next steps before testing. Support is limited to preparation and logistics; it does not include live-exam access, answers, defeating Bluebook security, or use of another identity. College Board prohibits taking the SAT for someone else or having someone else take it.

Exam Assist is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by College Board. Current College Board rules, your Bluebook test card, admission ticket, and testing staff control whenever an instruction changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to bring to the SAT? +
For SAT Weekend, bring your fully charged approved device with Bluebook installed and exam setup complete, your electronic or printed admission ticket, acceptable original physical photo ID, pencils or pens, and your College Board username and password. An approved handheld calculator is optional because Bluebook includes Desmos for Math.
Can I show my SAT admission ticket on my phone? +
College Board's current testing rules allow an electronic or printed admission ticket. The ticket is generated after you complete Bluebook exam setup. It does not replace your physical photo ID, and you should follow any newer instruction shown in Bluebook or on your test card.
Can I use a digital ID on SAT test day? +
No. College Board requires a valid original physical photo ID, not a photocopy or electronic ID. The full legal name must match the admission ticket. Students who will be 21 or older on test day must use an official government-issued photo ID.
Can I take the SAT on a personal Chromebook? +
No. Bluebook supports a school-managed Chromebook that meets current requirements, but not a personal Chromebook or ChromeOS Flex. Verified mode must be enabled. Recheck the approved-devices page before testing because operating-system requirements can change.
How do I verify that my SAT device is ready? +
Open the current Bluebook approved-devices page, check the exact operating system and management requirements, install the current app, and complete SAT Weekend exam setup 1-5 days before testing. For fall 2026, supported Windows devices must use Windows 11; S mode, Windows 11 SE, personal Chromebooks, and ChromeOS Flex are not supported.
When should I complete Bluebook exam setup? +
For SAT Weekend, complete exam setup 1-5 days before your test. Bluebook downloads the exam and generates your admission ticket during setup. If College Board is lending your device, staff will direct the setup process on test day and your ticket is generated then.
What should I do if my device fails during the SAT? +
Raise your hand and tell testing staff immediately. Do not open another app, troubleshoot in a way that breaks test rules, or switch devices on your own. Follow staff directions. A backup approved device is an official optional item, but staff must control whether and how it is used.
Can someone else take the SAT for me? +
No. College Board's testing rules prohibit taking the SAT for another person or having another person take it for you, and identity is checked against the roster, ticket, registration photo, and physical ID. Legitimate support ends before the live exam and covers preparation and logistics only.
