How much does an HPE certification exam cost?
It depends on the exam family, and HPE publishes the exact table. In developed countries: HPE0 and HPE6 proctored written exams cost $260 USD, comprehensive HPE7 exams cost $350, web-based HPE2 exams cost $140 and HPE3 exams $65, and the practical exams - HPE1 for hybrid cloud and HPE4 for Aruba networking - cost $875 and $1,200 respectively. Emerging-country pricing is lower on the written families: $145 for HPE0/HPE6, $195 for HPE7, $75 for HPE2, with HPE3, HPE1, and HPE4 flat worldwide.
Both HPE's own exam-types page and the Pearson VUE HPE program page publish these same figures - the Pearson page was last updated 14 August 2026, so this is the current picture, not a retired price list. Everything below comes from those two official pages plus HPE's exam-policies page, all retrieved 6 September 2026.
What does each HPE exam family cost?
HPE's price table has six rows, and each row maps to a different kind of exam. HPE0 exams are the HPE Hybrid Cloud proctored written exams - the track most technical candidates meet first, including the HPE0-S61 HPE Compute Fundamentals exam that launched 1 June 2026. HPE6 exams are the Aruba networking proctored written exams. HPE7 exams are comprehensive exams that validate three to five years of experience and can earn a new certification or a recertification in one sitting, which is why they price higher at $350.
The two practical families are the expensive rows, and they are also the two with a delivery rule worth knowing before you budget: HPE1 and HPE4 practical exams are delivered only with an online proctor - there is no test-center route. At the cheap end, HPE2 and HPE3 are web-based, unproctored exams taken in a browser with 24-hour access windows; they are timed, and in the case of HPE2 and HPE3 purchases, must be completed within 24 hours of purchase.
One row sits outside the table entirely: HPE sales certification assessments run through the HPE Sales Pro portal, and HPE states their fees increase during the year from $60 to $200 - a different budget line from the technical exams.
| Exam family | Developed countries | Emerging countries |
|---|---|---|
| HPE0 / HPE6 (proctored written) | $260 USD | $145 USD |
| HPE7 (comprehensive written) | $350 USD | $195 USD |
| HPE2 (web-based) | $140 USD | $75 USD |

Can you take HPE exams online from home?
Yes for the proctored written families, with one exception and four excluded countries. HPE's exam-types page states HPE0 and HPE6 exams are administered at Pearson VUE testing centers or online proctored, and the Pearson HPE program page confirms all HPE0, HPE6, and HPE7 exams - except Aruba Expert exams - are available as online proctored exams. You select 'at home' or 'office' during registration. OnVUE remote proctoring is not available in China, Iraq, North Korea, and Syria.
The practical exams (HPE1 and HPE4) are online-proctor only by design. Registration for every family runs through HPE's credential management platform at cp.certmetrics.com/hpe - HPE has retired the old requirement to hold an HPE Learner ID and a separate Pearson user ID and password, and you log in with your HPE profile credentials.
What does a failed HPE exam actually cost?
A failed attempt costs the full standard price again - HPE states the retake fee is the same as the original exam fee - plus a mandatory wait. For proctored written exams (HPE0, HPE6, HPE7), you wait 14 days if the previous two attempts were within 14 days. Practical exams (HPE1, HPE4) carry the same 14-day wait. Web-based exams (HPE2, HPE3) wait 7 days if the previous two attempts were within 7 days.
Run the math on the common case: a failed HPE0 sitting followed by a fast second failure is $520 and a forced two-week pause. On the practical side, a failed HPE4 Aruba practical is a second $1,200. And the administrative rules add more ways to lose money: exams must be cancelled or rescheduled within 24 hours of the appointment, and HPE presents its candidate agreement at exam time - decline it and you forfeit the sitting with no reimbursement.
How do HPE exam vouchers work?
HPE's voucher terms are strict on three axes. Validity: vouchers for all written exams delivered by Pearson VUE and all practical exams are valid for 12 months unless otherwise noted - that covers the HPE0, HPE1, HPE2, HPE3, HPE4, HPE6, and HPE7 families. Ownership: vouchers cannot be returned, exchanged, or sold to another person. Expiry: an expired voucher cannot be reactivated or extended, full stop.
The practical consequence is that a voucher is a 12-month planning horizon, not an open credit. If your certification timeline is tied to an employer deadline or a partner-program audit, buy against the sitting date you actually have - and remember HPE is phasing a revamped modular certification structure, announced as beginning 3 November 2025, through its fiscal year, so the exam your voucher maps to can be versioned during that window.
How should you budget for an HPE certification?
Budget the attempt, the retake risk, and the calendar. The attempt is the table above. The retake risk is a full second fee plus 14 days - on the $260 families that is a $520 worst case, on the practical families it is $1,750 to $2,400. The calendar is the piece people miss: vouchers expire in 12 months, cancellations inside 24 hours forfeit, and HPE's modular rollout means exam versions move.
If the credential is a job or partner-program requirement and your window is short, Exam Assist handles the HPE sitting end to end - at home via OnVUE or at a Pearson center - and the service fee is due only after the agreed pass posts. That is the same offer stated on our service pages; this page exists so you can judge the cost first.
The bottom line on HPE exam costs
HPE's official table prices the proctored written families at $260 and $350, the web-based families at $140 and $65, and the practical families at $875 and $1,200 per attempt in developed countries, with retakes at full price after a 14-day or 7-day wait and vouchers locked to 12-month validity. The sticker price is the beginning of the budget, not the end of it.
