What the ZDTA Exam Actually Tests
ZDTA is the administrator credential in Zscaler's certification program - the final step in the Zscaler for Users - Administrator (EDU 200) learning path, built to validate that you can deploy and implement the Zscaler Zero Trust platform for users. Zscaler's own certification outcomes are concrete: deploy the Zero Trust Exchange Platform, secure user- and device-to-internet traffic, enable the basic policies that protect user traffic, connect users to internal private apps through Zscaler Client Connector, and monitor user and app performance.
The published blueprint weights six domains: Policy & Security Configuration carries the largest share at 29%, User & Device Management and Platform Management carry 18% each, Monitoring, Reporting & Analytics and Troubleshooting & Incident Response carry 13% each, and Integration & Optimization closes at 9%. Nearly a third of the exam is policy work - exactly where part-time administrators are weakest.
Zscaler recommends the exam for candidates with at least six months of hands-on Zscaler platform experience plus five years of work experience across IT networks and cybersecurity. That is an administrator's exam, not an entry test.
One honesty note: Zscaler does not publish a numeric passing score. The official FAQ states plainly that it does not reveal specific cut scores or the exact number of correct items needed to pass. Anyone who quotes you an exact ZDTA pass percentage is guessing.
OnVUE at Home or a Pearson Test Center
Pearson VUE's Zscaler program page states the delivery plainly: Zscaler offers two methods of exam delivery - in-person at Pearson Authorized Test Centers and online via the OnVUE platform. Both routes are open for ZDTA, and both are scheduled through your Pearson web account. One restriction worth knowing: Zscaler's FAQ says OnVUE online-proctored exams are not offered in China, and exams are not offered in any format in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, or Ukraine, nor in Quebec, Canada.
The at-home route carries Pearson's published OnVUE requirements: Windows 10 or macOS 14 or higher, a working webcam, microphone, and speaker with no headphones, one display only, at least 6 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up, and the ability to close every application except OnVUE. Virtual machines, phones, tablets, smart devices with recording or AI features, secondary displays, VPNs, and corporate networks are prohibited. Check-in opens 30 minutes before the appointment with technology checks, photo and ID capture, and a 360-degree room scan - and failing the requirements on exam day can mean immediate cancellation and forfeiture of the fee, so the system test belongs on the exact device and network you will use.
What the ZDTA Attempt Costs
Zscaler's pricing is blunt: $300 USD per attempt, listed as US$300 (1 credit) on the exam page, and the registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Before you can book, you need a Zscaler Cyber Academy account and your Zscaler Client Candidate ID (ZCID), which is what links your Pearson web account to your certification record.
Retakes cost the full $300 again, and the official retake policy has teeth. One attempt per registration. After a failed first attempt you wait 7 calendar days. The waits then escalate - 15 days, 30 days, then 60 and 60 days - with a maximum of five retakes inside twelve months of the first attempt. A seventh attempt only opens a full year after the first, and anything beyond the sixth retake is case-by-case. You also cannot retake an exam you already passed except for an approved recertification. A failed exam is therefore not just a fee problem - it is a calendar problem, which is exactly what a handled sitting removes.

Zscaler is direct about enforcement: exams are computer scored immediately, and the final score is transmitted to your Zscaler Cyber Academy account only after a statistical analysis that looks for security issues, including the use of non-approved preparation materials - a flagged issue means an invalidation notice. Zscaler's exam day rules add that violations can mean termination, invalidated results, forfeited fees, and a ban from future Zscaler exams. Any provider who pretends those enforcement lines do not exist is not being honest with you.
