HPE's exam data card publishes the format directly: 50 questions, 1 hour 30 minutes, passing score 65, in English.
HPE's own price table and the Pearson HPE program page both price HPE0 exams at $260 USD in developed countries, $145 in emerging countries.
HPE publishes nine weighted objective sections, from 4% to 15% each, spanning the compute portfolio, iLO, deployment, and firmware.
Fail and you wait 14 days if the previous two attempts were within 14 days - and every attempt bills at the full $260.
What the HPE Compute Fundamentals Exam Actually Tests
HPE0-S61 is the entry exam of HPE's revamped compute certification track. HPE's own description: it validates your skills in HPE compute solutions for diverse workloads, covering fundamental knowledge of hybrid cloud platforms across HPE compute, storage, networking, and software. The exam launched 1 June 2026 and replaced the HPE0-V25 HPE Hybrid Cloud Solutions exam, so anything published about V25 belongs to the retired format.
HPE's ideal candidate has foundational experience with HPE compute solutions optimized for diverse workloads - virtualization, containerization, databases, data analytics, and AI inferencing. That phrasing matters: this is a breadth exam. The nine published objective sections run from the HPE compute portfolio and GreenLake strategy (5%) through components (15%), iLO and built-in server features (4%), management options (6%), customer requirements (10%), and then four 15% blocks - pre-sales tools, deploying servers, firmware updates, and managing compute with iLO.
Unlike Dell, HPE publishes the full format on the data card: 50 questions, 1 hour 30 minutes, passing score 65, in English. No reference material is allowed at the testing site, and HPE warns the exam may contain beta test items added for experimental purposes.
| # | Objective section | Weight |

| 3 | Explain HPE iLO and Other Built-in Server Features | 4% |
| 4 | Describe HPE Compute Management Options | 6% |

At Home via OnVUE or at a Pearson Test Center
HPE states the delivery routes on its own exam-types page: HPE0 exams are HPE Hybrid Cloud proctored written exams administered at Pearson VUE testing centers or online proctored. The Pearson VUE HPE program page, last updated 14 August 2026, confirms that all HPE0, HPE6, and HPE7 exams - except Aruba Expert exams - are available as online proctored exams, and tells candidates to select 'at home' or 'office' during registration. One hard boundary: OnVUE remote proctoring is not available in China, Iraq, North Korea, and Syria.
Registration runs through HPE's new credential management platform at cp.certmetrics.com/hpe. HPE has retired the old plumbing - an HPE Learner ID and a separate Pearson user ID and password are no longer required, and you log in with your HPE profile credentials. First-time users get a walkthrough on accessing, scheduling, and taking the exam through the platform before the Pearson scheduling handoff.
At exam time, HPE presents its Certification and Learning Candidate Agreement - decline it and you cannot proceed, and the exam cost is not reimbursed. Your result is private: only you can request an inquiry into it, and HPE does not guarantee a rescore.
What HPE0-S61 Costs, Including the Retake Math
Both HPE's exam-types page and the Pearson HPE program page price HPE0 exams at $260 USD in developed countries and $145 USD in emerging countries - that is the per-attempt price for HPE0-S61. If you buy through Pearson's voucher route, HPE's voucher terms give you 12 months of validity, no returns, exchanges, or resale, and no reactivation after expiry.
Budget for the policy teeth, not just the sticker. Exams must be cancelled or rescheduled within 24 hours of the appointment. Fail, and the retake rule for proctored HPE exams is a 14-day wait if the previous two attempts were within 14 days - and every retake bills at the same standard price as the original sitting. A failed attempt followed by a fast second failure therefore costs $520 plus a forced pause.
Where HPE0-S61 Candidates Actually Lose the Exam
The weighting tells you where the risk sits. Four sections carry 15% each - pre-sales tools, deploying servers, firmware updates, and managing with iLO - which means 60% of the exam is doing, not describing. HPE expects you to pick the correct HPE tool for a task and configure a simple compute solution with it, configure local storage and deploy an operating system, manage firmware through iLO, HPE SUM, and Intelligent Provisioning, and run basic management and monitoring tasks in iLO. Candidates who only know the product line on paper get caught here.
The quiet trap is the 4% iLO-and-built-in-features section paired with the 6% management-options section. Together they are only 10% of the exam, but they are the sections experienced admins skip while reviewing - and at a passing score of 65 with 50 questions, every section you forfeit puts the margin under pressure. HPE's own advice on the data card is blunt: completing the course or study materials alone does not ensure you pass, because exam items assume job experience and industry-standard knowledge.

How We Think About Exam Security
HPE treats exam content as confidential - questions, answers, and diagrams are proprietary - and presents its candidate agreement at exam time. That is published HPE policy, and it is why we plan every engagement around the official delivery rules - the published OnVUE room, equipment, and identity requirements or the test-center equivalent - instead of against them.
You will see cheaper offers that promise the world on this exam. Ask them what happens when the vendor reviews the sitting under its exam-security policy. Our model only makes money when your pass posts and stays posted, which is exactly the outcome you are paying for.
What we control is the quality, discretion, and privacy of the engagement: an honest feasibility answer before anything starts, a structured execution plan, and a fee that follows the result. Your details stay private, and if your situation makes the service a bad fit, we tell you before you spend anything.
The Payment Model, Stated Plainly
You pay the service fee only after the agreed result posts. HPE's $260 exam fee and any voucher costs are the exam's own costs, separate from the service fee, and we tell you the full picture up front so there are no surprise line items.
We accept the usual range of payment methods and can work around procurement constraints for employer-sponsored sittings - ask in the first message and you will get a straight answer.
What Infrastructure Professionals Say
Our HPE partner specialization needed the new compute track certified fast. They confirmed the coverage against HPE's own data card, handled the sitting at home via OnVUE, and I paid after the pass posted.
I know servers from the OS side but had never worked the iLO and firmware tooling the exam weights so heavily. The feasibility call was honest about that gap, the sitting was handled end to end, and the fee only moved after the result.
The retired V25 material I had been studying was useless for the new exam format. I sent my window and deadline, got a straight answer, the sitting was handled end to end, and I paid after the pass posted.
