PL-900
PL-900 is Microsoft's entry-level certification for the Power Platform — the low-code suite of Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages, and Dataverse. It's the credential employers ask for when they want proof you can read and build automation and apps without writing heavy code. Miss the 700 mark and Microsoft locks you out for 24 hours, then enforces longer waits on later retakes — and the exam fee is charged again each time. This page breaks down exactly what the current exam tests, how OnVUE delivery works, and how to get it passed cleanly.

How the PL-900 is built — at a glance
5
Business value, managing the environment and Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Pages. Power Apps carries the heaviest weight at 25–30%.
60
Around 40–60 questions in 60 minutes. Plan for roughly 80–90 minutes total once you add the NDA, instructions, and optional survey to the clock.
700
Scored 1–1000; you need 700 to pass. It's a scaled score, not a flat 70%, so the number of questions you can miss shifts with question difficulty.
Expect single-answer multiple choice, multiple-response items, drag-and-drop matching, build-list ordering, and short case-style scenarios. Once you advance past a case or move on from a question, you generally cannot return — so pacing matters even on a 60-minute exam.
Microsoft refreshed the skills measured on 20 June 2025. The standalone Power BI and Power Virtual Agents / chatbot domains were removed, Power Pages gained a hands-on "create a site" objective, and Copilot and generative-AI features are now woven through every area rather than sitting in their own section.
Five skill areas — bars show each domain's share of the scored exam (Microsoft, June 2025)
Why the Power Platform exists: the value of Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages, connectors, Dataverse, Power Fx, Copilot Studio, and how it all fits with Microsoft 365 and Teams.
Dataverse tables, columns, and relationships; the difference from a traditional database; plus environments, the security model, admin centers, data privacy, and accessibility.
The heaviest domain. Canvas vs. model-driven apps, connecting data sources, common controls, responsive containers, Copilot controls, and sharing an app.
Cloud vs. desktop flows, triggers and connectors, approvals, process mining, loops and branching, and building an instant, automated, or scheduled flow.
Use cases for external-facing sites, ways to create a site, security concepts, the design studio, building and modifying pages, and creating a site with Copilot.
The retired Power BI dashboard and Power Virtual Agents chatbot domains are gone as of June 2025. Older study materials still listing them will lead you to over-prepare the wrong topics.
Because Power Apps is the single largest slice, candidates who can confidently tell a canvas app from a model-driven app — and explain when to use each — tend to clear the bar comfortably. Dataverse and the environment/security model are where unprepared candidates most often lose points.
Two ways to sit the exam — and what to expect on test day
You take the exam from a private room at home or work, monitored by Pearson VUE's OnVUE software with a greeter and proctor. You'll run a system test in advance, check in by photographing your ID and four shots of your workspace, and stay on camera the whole time. No notes, no second monitor, no breaks.
Prefer a controlled room? You can book the same exam at a Pearson VUE test center. Staff verify your government ID, store your belongings, and seat you at a locked-down workstation. The content, timing, and 700 pass mark are identical to the online version.
Schedule through your Microsoft Learn certification profile, which hands you to Pearson VUE. Your name must match your government photo ID exactly, or check-in can be refused.
For OnVUE: a stable connection, a working webcam and mic, a clear desk, no phone within reach, and no one else in the room. Run the OnVUE system test days ahead to avoid surprises.
Wait 24 hours before retake two; a 14-day wait applies to attempts three, four, and five, with a maximum of five tries in 12 months. Each attempt charges the exam fee again.
PL-900 is built for business users entering the low-code world
No requirements — and one of Microsoft's most approachable exams
Difficulty: PL-900 is a true fundamentals exam — most candidates pass with 15–30 hours of study. The trap is the breadth: five product areas plus Dataverse and governance means a single weak domain (often Dataverse relationships or the security model) can quietly cost you the 700 mark. That breadth-under-time-pressure is exactly where our help removes the risk.
PL-900 is approachable, but a failed attempt still means a re-booked fee, a 24-hour lockout, and a stalled certification plan. Exam Assist pairs you with a vetted Power Platform specialist and works on a pay-after-you-pass model — so the risk sits with us, not you. No upfront fee, guaranteed results: Exam Assist handles the sitting end to end, and you settle only after the verified result.
Tell us your delivery choice (OnVUE or test center), your target date, and whether PL-900 is a stepping stone to a role-based cert. Takes a couple of minutes over WhatsApp, Telegram, or Discord.
We review your timeline and goal and tell you plainly whether it's realistic — before any money is discussed. If it isn't a fit, we say so.
Exam Assist handles the sitting end to end. You're matched with a Power Platform specialist who maps the work around the five current skill areas — and around the OnVUE check-in flow — discreetly and confidentially.
You only pay once your passing score is confirmed on your official Microsoft transcript. No verified result, nothing owed.
