What is PSI Bridge?
PSI Bridge is the candidate-facing name of the online proctoring platform operated by PSI Services LLC, the testing company behind hundreds of certification, licensure, and admissions exams. PSI's public pages now present the same offering as the PSI Proctoring Platform, protected by the PSI Secure Browser, and describe PSI as an ETS company.
The platform supports two delivery modes. In live online proctoring, trained human proctors and administrators support the session in real time. In record-and-review proctoring, the exam is recorded and PSI-approved proctors assess the recording after the test is complete. PSI positions the platform as a secure alternative to on-site testing that works with any test delivery system, with ID authentication, customizable test security settings, and custom reports and analytics for exam owners.
PSI also publishes a telling adoption statistic: over 75% of test takers who have the choice now opt to take their test remotely with online proctoring.
What check-in verifies
On test day you log in to your test registration platform with the credentials your test sponsor provided. PSI's published check-in then walks through a fixed sequence: you test your microphone and webcam - a step PSI describes as ensuring no prohibited programs are running - and you capture a photo of yourself plus a valid government-issued photo ID.
The ID rules are specific. The ID must be government-issued and must include a photo. Military IDs are not accepted, and school IDs are generally not recommended. A Check-In Specialist then validates and authenticates your photos and your identity before anything else happens.
One timing fact matters for planning: PSI states the exam countdown does not start until you have passed the security checks and accessed your exam, so the check-in process does not eat into your testing time.
The admissions room scan
After identity checks, you follow an admissions process set by your exam's rules. PSI publishes what that process may include: a room scan with your webcam, which can cover a 360-degree scan of your testing environment, a scan of your desk surface, an accessories scan, and an allowed-objects scan - all matched against what your test rules permit.
The purpose PSI states is fairness: confirming that the testing conditions are equal for every candidate and that nothing unpermitted is within reach before the exam begins. Once the admissions process is finished, you are connected to an online proctor, and only then does the exam itself open.
PSI's preparation guidance tells you how to pass this smoothly: choose a quiet and private space where you will not be disturbed, keep it well-lit, and keep it clutter-free. A clean desk and a plain room are the fastest route through the scan.
The PSI Secure Browser and system checks
PSI's online exams run inside the PSI Secure Browser, which PSI describes as ensuring testing online integrity while protecting the privacy of test takers. At the end of the exam, the Secure Browser may flag unanswered questions that need reviewing before you confirm the session is over.
Your hardware has to meet the platform before test day. PSI requires a desktop or laptop computer with a webcam and a microphone, and it publishes a System Compatibility Check - a publicly available online tool - so you can confirm your computer meets the specifications in advance. Some test sponsors also share a Tutorial Test, a simulation of the real testing flow.
If technology gets in the way anyway, PSI's candidate guide states that live chat with its technical team is available throughout the entire session, backed by 24/7 customer service by phone, email, or online chat.
Live proctoring and record-and-review
During a live-proctored exam, PSI states that its online proctoring team monitors your session through screenshare, webcam, and microphone, framed as ensuring fairness and privacy protection. The monitoring runs for the whole session, and you confirm explicitly when you want to end it.
Record-and-review works differently. The remote computer-based test is recorded as you take it, and PSI-approved proctors assess the recording after the test is complete. PSI positions this mode as the flexible option: anytime, anywhere testing, with the same security evidence captured for later review.
Both modes sit on the same platform core - ID authentication, the secure browser, and security settings the exam owner customizes - so the difference you feel as a candidate is whether a person is watching live or a person reviews the recording afterward.
How AI assists - and where it stops
PSI publishes a clear division of labor: it uses AI in both its live and record-and-review proctoring, only ever in combination with a human proctor. During the exam, PSI says human review of the webcam view, the desktop, and the surroundings is combined with AI pattern recognition, object recognition, and eye movement detection to increase the likelihood that an unauthorized person entering the room, or a mobile phone or other unauthorized materials, will be detected.
At check-in, facial recognition can authenticate identity quickly by comparing your selfie with a prior selfie or your ID - and when the AI flags a potential failed match, the images and data go to a human proctor to investigate in detail. PSI also publishes a wider set of security capability categories on its platform and security pages: advanced ID verification using biometric checks (facial, voice, and keystroke similarity), deepfake detection, video indexing to support human proctors, room similarity scans, generative AI response detection, and a global database search that matches biometric profiles but not personal information.
The stopping rule is stated plainly: final decisions remain in the hands of trained professionals, and important decisions about whether to stop an assessment or invalidate results are never taken by AI alone. The loop is closed by design - every proctor flag trains the AI, and every AI flag is checked by a proctor.
The wider security layers
PSI does not frame proctoring as a single tool. Its security pages describe layered test security - a comprehensive end-to-end solution or targeted individual services - backed by a dedicated team of over 70 test security professionals, and its knowledge hub organizes the model into four layers of assessment security: identity assurance, environment and session controls, behavioral monitoring that is AI-assisted and human-led, and advanced fraud analytics.
Beyond the live session, the published services extend to data forensics and web crawling - statistical analysis of testing data to identify anomalies, plus monitoring of websites and social media for unauthorized disclosure of test content - along with audits, investigations, risk assessments, and incident response.
For a candidate, the practical meaning is simple: what happens in your session sits inside a bigger integrity system that watches for problems before, during, and after your exam.
