What is the Omnissa certification path?
Four levels, two tracks. The ladder starts at Administrator - OCA-H for Horizon or OCA-W for Workspace ONE - climbs to Engineer (OCE-H or OCE-W), continues to Design Engineer (OCDE, announced as coming later this year), and caps at Platform Engineer (OCPE) for candidates who hold the design credential in both tracks. Every exam costs a flat 250 USD, every credential is valid for two years from the issue date, and there are no mandatory training prerequisites anywhere in the program. The OCE level formally requires the matching OCA first; everything above OCE builds on the rungs below it.
The Ladder at a Glance
The table maps the current program as Omnissa publishes it: the two live levels with their 2025-coded exams from Pearson VUE's registration flow, the announced design level, and the platform cap. The eligibility column states each rung's formal gate - not the vendor's marketing aspirations, but the rule a candidate actually has to satisfy.
Notice what the ladder does not contain: any OCP or OCAP rung. Those programs are retired, and legacy credentials from the VMware era serve only as honored-until-expiry records and, where unexpired, as prerequisites for higher-level exams. Nobody starting today should plan around a retired code.

The Retired Programs, in Dates
The rebuild happened fast, so the dates matter. Omnissa retired the OCP exams on August 29, 2025: no new registrations after that date, with already-scheduled OCP sittings still delivered via Pearson VUE and existing OCP credentials remaining valid - including as prerequisites toward OCAP where that still applied. The OCAP and Specialist exams remained available until November 2025, and the OCE exams replaced them, launching December 10, 2025 as the streamlined, role-based successor.
For legacy credential holders, Omnissa's FAQ is the rulebook: retired-exam credentials stay valid until their printed expiry, unexpired credentials are honored as prerequisites for higher-level certifications, and candidates who held a scheduled OCAP or Specialist sitting could proceed with it or cancel for a full refund and register for the OCE instead. Legacy VMware-era records live in CertMetrics and Credly; the new program's records live in Clarus.
The No-Prerequisite Change
The single biggest accessibility change in the rebuilt program is what Omnissa removed: mandatory training. Beginning September 2025, no Omnissa certification requires a course purchase as a booking condition. The vendor still maps recommended courses to every credential - Horizon or Workspace ONE administration and operations at the administrator level, deploy-and-manage and troubleshooting courses at the engineer level - but the FAQ states training is recommended, not required.
The vendor pairs that freedom with one honest warning: recommended courses cover most topics but not all, and knowledge that can only be gained from hands-on experience is also needed to pass. Omnissa's own suggested candidate profiles make the same point - the OCE level is aimed at IT professionals with five-plus years of experience and at least 12 months running the track's products in production.
How to Start: Accounts, Delivery, and the First Sitting
The registration path is two accounts deep. You register the credential attempt inside Omnissa's Clarus portal - also the home of your transcript, certificates, and badges - then schedule the sitting through Pearson VUE. Every public exam code offers both delivery models in Pearson's live flow: in-person at a Pearson test center, or online from home via OnVUE against the published minimums (one display, no headphones, 6 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up, all other applications closed).
Before paying for the seat, read the official exam guide for your exam - Omnissa directs all candidates there for blueprint-level details like question counts, sitting length, passing scores, and objective weights, and those numbers are not republished on official marketing pages. The 250 USD fee is paid inside the Pearson booking flow, by card or an applied voucher code.
