What is the Meta Digital Marketing Associate exam?
The Meta Certified Digital Marketing Associate exam (code 100-101) is Meta Blueprint's entry-level advertising credential: 60 questions in 90 minutes, a passing score of 700 out of 1,000, and a fee between the equivalent of US$99 and US$150 depending on your country. You can sit it online from home via Pearson OnVUE or at a Pearson VUE test center.
The 100-101 Format: 60 Questions, 90 Minutes, 700 to Pass
Meta's official exam page states the format in three sentences: the exam has 60 questions and is 90 minutes long; the passing score is 700 out of 1,000; and there is a five-day waiting period to retake the exam if you do not pass. That is roughly 90 seconds per question - enough time to read carefully, not enough to look anything up.
The exam is aimed at entry-level marketers, and Meta names the audience directly: students, job seekers, and people changing careers. It is offered in English, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Spanish (Latin American), and Meta publishes a free 30-question practice test plus free study materials on the same page.
Scoring is scaled: 700 out of 1,000 is the passing point, not 70% of questions. Meta does not publish the raw conversion or a pass rate, so any site quoting a DMA pass percentage is estimating.
The Five DMA Domains and Their Published Weights
Meta publishes the DMA blueprint as five weighted domains. The weights matter more than the topic list: nearly half the exam sits in one domain, so study time should follow the percentages, not an even split.
Create and manage ads dominates at 46% - campaign creation and management in Ads Manager, audience selection, budgets, and optimization. Advertising fundamentals is 21% - the concepts behind Meta advertising. Establish a business presence carries 15%, Reporting 10%, and The value of Meta technologies 8%.
| Domain | Weight |
|---|---|
| Create and manage ads | 46% |
| Advertising fundamentals | 21% |
| Establish a business presence | 15% |
| Reporting | 10% |
| The value of Meta technologies | 8% |

Taking the DMA Online from Home
Pearson VUE's Meta Certification program page puts the delivery choice in one sentence: you can schedule and take your secure, online proctored exams in the convenience and privacy of your office or home, or at a Pearson test center near you. The online route runs on Pearson's OnVUE platform, which has a dedicated Meta page.
The OnVUE minimums are published and strict: Windows 10 or macOS 14 or higher; a working webcam, microphone, and speaker with no headphones or headsets; one display screen only; a stable connection of at least 6 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload; and every application except OnVUE closed. Virtual machines, VPNs, secondary or touchscreen displays, phones, tablets, watches, and corporate or public networks are all prohibited.
Pearson warns that failing to meet the minimums on exam day can mean immediate cancellation and fee forfeiture, and recommends running the system test on the same device and network you will use. At check-in you need a government-issued personal ID; Meta states the proctor is available 30 minutes before the appointment, and you see a preliminary result on screen with a CertMetrics follow-up within 24 hours.
DMA Cost and the Free Second Attempt
Meta Certification exams cost the equivalent of USD 99 to USD 150, depending on your country, with the exact price shown during checkout. Meta does not publish a single fixed USD price per exam code, so treat any flat global price quoted elsewhere as a guess.
The DMA's distinctive rule is the free retake: if you fail, you are eligible to schedule a second exam free of charge after the five-day waiting period. Attempts beyond the first two cost the regular exam fee, and Meta's retake FAQ adds that there is no limit to the number of attempts - with the full fee charged each time.
Two scheduling rules carry real money: cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before the appointment or the absence counts as an exam attempt, and misconduct can bar you from Meta exams for up to three years. The full cost picture across the Meta family - including the 12-month professional credentials - is on the Meta certification cost explained page.
Two Years of Validity and the Recertification Window
The DMA certification is valid for two years from the day it is earned. Meta's recertification FAQ states you become eligible for recertification six months before the expiration date, and you renew by retaking the current 100-101 exam.
Letting the credential lapse is expensive in effort, not just fees: Meta states that if your certification has already lapsed, the refresh option is no longer available and you retake the full proctored exam. The two-year clock starts on the day the certification is earned, not the day you get around to checking it.
The credential arrives as a verifiable Credly digital badge you can share on profiles and resumes - the artifact employers actually check.
Who the DMA Is Actually For
Meta names the audience on the exam page: entry-level marketers, including students, job seekers, and people changing careers. It is the beginner tier in the Blueprint family - below the intermediate professional credentials like the Media Buying Professional (410-101) - and it is the line recruiters scan for when hiring junior paid-social staff.
Once you hold the DMA, Meta points you at specialist badges such as the Media Measurement Specialist, so the associate credential works as the family's front door. If you already run campaigns daily, the intermediate credentials are the better signal; if you are breaking in, the DMA is the credential with your name on it.
